Comment: My senior year at Montgomery High was a time to be remembered all my life. After returning back to Germany I finished school here. Went back to Santa Rosa in 1973 to visit my American family and friends, unfortunately almost all of them had gone off to college or joined the army or whatever.  Then I worked for two years in a hospital instead of joining the army. In 1975 I started to study law at Freie Universität Berlin. After spending some time at the London School of Economics I visited the States again in 1978, but didn’t make it all the way to California. Worked some time as a lawyer and finally became a judge at Berlin Criminal Court. Favorite pastimes: open water sailing with my yacht Avalon, rid-ing my motorcycle; unfortunately no kids, not married, but living with the same girl for the last 20 years. I was missing my american brother Dana Smalley in the list of missing grads, too. I myself lost contact many years ago. Does anybody know what has become of him?

Comment: Looking forward to seeing everyone in October. Can't believe it's our 40th already!  Many of our clients weren't even born when we graduated from college.  Hard to imagine.

John and I are still in Silicon Valley.  Son Jeffrey and I are still selling residential real estate.  At 28, Jeffrey has been my business partner for 6 years.  Son Joel, who is schizo-affective and has Asperger's Syndrome, is successfully handling a part-time delivery job, helping us stage houses for sale, and managing his "abilities" like a pro, at 32.

John and I dance, bowl, and ride the tandem bike regularly.  Just returned from Alaska.   Always looking for people to go on the next cruise with us.  Life is good!

December 2015 update:  Looking forward to the 45th!  John and I travel frequently for business, so we hope the reunion occurs when we are in California.

We are still in San Jose, John is still a senior satellite test engineer who works frequently at Cape Canaveral.  Both of our sons and I are the Benford Team at Sereno Group Real Estate.  Jeffrey and I have worked together for 10 years.  Joel joined us in 2014 as our assistant.

We still bike, dance, and travel for pleasure.  I have knitted more, and have been taking violin lessons much of the last decade.  John loves to bowl on his league, build model aircraft, watch sci-fi, and serves as our part-time tech guru.

It's a good life!

April 2021 Update

Wow, this is a celebration year for all of us, as we are just coming out of a year with COVID, and we have survived 50 years of work and life since high school.

Changes since my 2015 update:  My younger son has left our real estate team and has been running his own residential property management company in Santa Clara County.  He and his wife now have 3 kids, whom John and I are tickled to be Grammie and Grampa to, doing the spoiling thing, of course.  They twins are currently 1 year old, and their big sister is 3.

John retired last February, and then went back to work at the same place, a few months later when Lockheed asked him to come in as a consultant.  He was getting bored, and is currently still there.   I'm still working too.  We quite like keeping busy.

Comment: Piper (Canevari) and I were together for 48 years (5 dating, 43 married).  We lost her to Alzhemer's in 2018.  She was unexpectedly diagnosed with the early onset of Alzhemer's at 54.  I quit my job in 2010 to care for her 24/7 for the next 8 years and she left us almost 48 years to the day we started dating at Montgomery!  We have 4 kids, 5 grandkids, 4 granddogs & a grandcat!  We were in the ministry for over 36 years as Asst Pastors at 5 different churches in Sonoma County.  (I also had other jobs during those years including 20 years at HP)

We had moved to North Carolina in 2014 where Piper passed and I then moved to Oklahoma near Tulsa in 2019 to be near our kids who had all ended up out here by 2018 - 3 in OK and 1 in Nashville!  (I had previously gone to Bible School out here so I was familiar with the area)

In some respects I feel like I'm starting over, but things are good and I'm excited for the future!

Comment: Wow! It's a trip into the past to peruse this website. Thanks for the fun of its existence. I loved being able to see the photos of "us" grown up. It's been a lot of years, verdad?

I have lived in Iowa for too long. I divorced 3 years ago after 22 years of craziness. But I have 3 "perfect" kids. Two live in Portland, Oregon. The youngest lives near me and attends the University of Northern Iowa where we both went after my divorce. I'm almost finished with a Master's Degree in TESOL/ Spanish. I'm an ESL teacher to the tiny Mexican immigrant kids in Postville, IA. (Anybody see the documentary on this famous little town?)
I am also recently engaged to a wonderful guy from Decorah, Iowa. He is a high school Spanish teacher. We traveled in S. America together last summer after I finished teaching in the University at Tarapaca, Arica, Chile. For a great romantic getaway, we highly recommend the Iguazu Falls in Brazil. (It actually borders 3 countries.) Our tenative, unofficial plan for the wedding is May 27, 2007. It's awesome to have a second chance at love.

Both my brothers have passed away. My sister returned from LA to live in Santa Rosa. We just recently saw each other in July, glad to have each other. Teachers have great long summers to travel...but school begins soon so I doubt I will be able to come to the reunion, unless a miracle happens. I would love to see you all and invite you to email me!

Have fun at the reunion! Best wishes to all of you!
